So...Jagr with 2 goals, 2 assists in the season opening 4-3 victory. Solid home win against the Coyotes.
Second game was a 1-0 loss in Minnesota. Forgot to mention: The game was played by the backup goalie. Solid performance by him. If he plays like that this season, it will be a heck of a 1-2 punch in net for Dallas.
Last night was a wonderful team played, aggressive game in Detroit. Lehtonen was 4 seconds away from a shutout. I'll take a 2-1 win against the Red Wings any day of the week.

Yeah, they are happy to have hockey back in the great white north...not alot of Leafs fans here though. One of the guys said he is a RedWings fan. Denis (customer lead on my side) said "how did they do last night" to which I as able to proudly claim "they lost to Dallas".

Hahahaha! That's awesome! But, if he was a "fan", shouldn't he know what the result was already? I mean, I'm a fan of all the local sports plus one based in London. If I don't watch a game until the very end, the first thing I do is check the score in the morning. This could be a questionable individual...

I didn't let him answer. Denis asked and before he said anything I said "they lost to Dallas"

Well, that was a kick to the nuts. They squandered a 2-0 against a top 4 (in my opinion) team in the league. But, at least they got a point out of it with a 3-2 OT loss. Lehtonen was great. Without him, it would have been 5-1 by the middle of the 2nd period. On 2 of the 3 goals CHI scored, he didn't have a chance. The other was tapped in by his defender, Trevor Daley. If he were Columbian, he would have been "taken care of" as he ventured out to his vehicle. Defensive breakdowns were the norm last night. Especially obvious by the fact that they gave up 41 shots.
The defensive core, except for Robidas and Daley, is very young. This was a great learning experience for them. They got to see how the true elite teams in the league can play. How quick it can be. As long as they stick with them, they should continue to learn and get better.
Stars are 2-1-1 for 5 points. One point back of San Jose for 1st in the division.

Indeed. Four games into the season and they have been competitive in every one of them. Plus, signing the new franchise player, Jamie Benn, to a 5 year $26 million contract yesterday will do nothing but help. He won't be here Saturday for St. Louis due to visa issues, but he should be here for the following game. He should be in great shape since he has been playing in Europe.

They kind of $hi+ the bed last night, though.

Oh, definitely. But like I said earlier, it's a learning experience for the young defense. They were playing who I think will win the Cup this season. Chicago should have won last night, but to have a lead for the first two and half periods and end up losing in OT still sucks. Hopefully this hits home that the other guys are pretty good also and want to win as much as they do. St. Louis is next and they are right there with Chicago. Their goalie, Jaroslav Halak, has 2 shutouts already. They kind of $hi+ the bed last night, though.

Well, that was as gutty as a loss could get. Losing 4-3 to an elite team while being down the top two center ice men (Jamie Benn, work visa issues and Derek Roy, injured) and also being without Jagr.
But, just like against Chicago, the young defense just didn't do what they needed to do. That might just be a common theme in this shortened season. Jamie Oleksiak call-up could be coming later on. He's the defenseman we drafted two years ago. He's as close to a Derian Hatcher clone as there is.

That just sucked. A great performance by Lehtonen and a solid defensive effort wasted because they couldn't generate any offense against a terrible Columbus team. The second Columbus goal was a total fluke. But that's just the way hockey go...
