If he is still running his mouth and producing an average defense after next year, I might be swayed. The lockout and bad players are just too much though.

I'll give him one more year, so he can have a full training camp and everything. And I don't expect him to have even a top five defense or anything - just be competitive, at least.

So with all the firings leaves lots of turn over in the coaching ranks. You've got to think all these playoff teams will stand to lose a coordinator and some good talent. Teams will start raping the Packers just like they've done every other winning franchise in NFL history. So at this point we have KC, St Louis, Miami, Tampa, and possibly a few other openings. I'm thinking Ryan will get one of those positions, along with Fewell the DCoordinator for the Giants. Probably be the return of Fisher and Cowher possibly to the sidelines as well.

Supposedly, Fisher is going to end up with the Rams.

Interesting note on Sparano:
Tony Sparano has been out of the NFL coaching ranks for the past few weeks, with his future uncertain in the vocation. Before that, he was head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Before that, however, he was employed by the Dallas Cowboys, and it appears that he could be heading back to Big D.
According to Matt Mosley of Fox Sports Southwest, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett would be open to bringing Sparano back to the team in an as yet undisclosed capacity. Per Mosley, Sparano has a good rapport with Cowboys QB Tony Romo.
Mosley adds that there could be a particular mitigating issue: Sparano may want to call plays, and Garrett would have to give that power up.

I haven't seen Cowher's name mentioned anywhere as a candidate. The guys I've heard talk about him talk like he is happy not coaching. I wonder if there is some super secret behind the scenes stuff going on.

No, I think he's like Dungy and Jimmy - just enjoying getting paid sackloads of cash for a couple hours cushy studio work a week, with several months off in between. I think Gruden's really the only TV guy desperate to get back into coaching right now.

I excited to see what the 2012 season has in store for us. I keep hoping to see a couple other firings like in Jacksonville.

Norm went over the Cowboys cap situation starting next year and with the assumptions the obvious players were being let go (Newman, Brooking, Spencer, Ball). It sounded like since they stayed so far under the cap this year, the dead money that was going to count against them next season would be greatly reduced, so Jerry will have money to spend on free agents if he chooses to. We still need to score on some big time draft picks though if we really want to improve the team.

3-4 DE, NT, strong side OLB, 3-4th CB, and starting Guard on offense should be easily addressed as a free agent signing. Of course you get the stud players drafting. A safety, corner, bad ass DL, I think priority has to be focused on landing sure things people that'll make it on the field on 2012 deal with the growing pains and move forward.

You're right about the dead money being reduced. Cap space this season (nearly $15M) gets saved for next year reducing the dead money. Right now it looks like we'll have about $8M in space. That could get better based on cuts and letting some vets leave in FA. We will have room. The key is to fill major gaps in free agency and draft best player available...guys that can get on the field now like Dave said.

Here's what I'd like to see:
Use top pick on best CB or OL available. Use 2nd round pick on whichever of those two wasn't taken in the first round. Sign at least one veteran free agent OL.
NO "PROJECTS" OR COMBINE FREAKSHOWS!!!
Like Dave and Gary both said, stick with the solid guys who can contribute immediately.

I want Fletcher Cox or Devon Still. There's lots of guards in 2nd and 3rd round.
