I realize only Matt, Robb, Gary, and myself will analyze the draft. So this is a honest look at what needs to take place in the offseason.
Offseason needs. Find out if Ryan is going to be hired in Miami. If so a defense coordinator is needed. Defensive Line coach and Campo need to be replaced as well. We need an offensive coordinator huge mistake if we hire Norv Turner need someone like Charlie Weiss. We also need a new special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is a goner.
Cuts and non-tenders should be Spencer, Brooking, James, Newman, Bennett, Kitna, Ogletree, Robinson, McBriar, Dockery, and Holland will hopefully all be gone.
We can keep Costa he's a backup at Center and Guard, Free, Smith, Nagy, Arkin, Kowalski, and Parnell. Gives you three spots to replace need to find 2 starters for 3 positions guard and center.
Now the draft we need talent and lots of it. I'm all for trading down in the 1st round if we can parlay our 1st three rounds into 4 players we'll have done a good job. That should be a CB, Guard/Center, DE/DT. I want athletes speed and upside is the name of the game. A rush OLB a real speed guy can be found in the later rounders someone that has more of a second dimension then Spencer had the last couple of years.

If you're right about a possibility of trading Miles I'd be on board with keep Robinson. If not to much other needs and money being spent on offense already.
I did start thinking of a few teams Austin would make a good trade too. The Rams for their 3rd and 6th would be a good match for me.

I like Billy Winn; he's ranked about 55 in the draft.
Winn moves between the three and five-technique spots regularly in Boise's scheme, and even plays outside the tackle at times despite approaching 300 pounds. That combination of agility and strength should intrigue NFL teams as an early-round prospect whether as a 4-3 defensive tackle or 3-4 defensive end.
I also like Jared Crick but his draft stock is going to be to high he'll be a early second late first to high for him.

Rams fired Mickey Spagnola, so he would be a solid replacement for failed Rob Ryan, if some other team is stupid enough to make that worthless fat fuck their head coach.

Let me get this straight. Rob Ryan's the reason our defense sucked? Not that 6-7 of these guys had no business being on the field in the first place. There are two threads about the offseason I'm sure stupidity is welcomed in one of them.
Ryan brought in two players added zero money to the cap overall he decreased money on defense. But I guess he built the juggernaut from scratch. We had limited resources for a reason before he got the DC position mismanagement but you're going to use him as a scapegoat figures. It amazes me the complete lack of football knowledge you exhibit each time you attempt to talk football.
Why don't you delete your post and leave the adult football talk to people that honestly care about the Cowboys.

Yes, you are right that the players are the reason this defense sucked, but Ryan keeps running his fucking mouth like he's done a single goddamn good thing since he got here. He's done way more at other stops with much less. Whatever happened to his magic touch? I wouldn't be so pissed at the guy if he just admitted there's a problem, but he keeps carrying on like we've got the best defense in the league. No, he doesn't have a ton of great talent to work with right now, and the players are primarily to blame. But as I've said before, he also has to be held accountable to some extent.

espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4689250/compared-to-10-defense-ryans-better-butIRVING, Texas -- Statistically, Rob Ryan’s first season with the Cowboys was an improvement from what the defense did in 2010.
When the defense was as bad as it was in 2010 that’s not exactly saying much.
The Cowboys were ranked 23rd in yards and 31st in points in 2010. They finished 14th in yards and 16th in points in 2011.
Again, it was better but not good enough.
Much has been made about the lack of an offseason together because of the lockout. Maybe Ryan wasn’t able to institute his full plan or do it the way he would have with a full complement of organized team activities and mini-camps but the lack of offseason work is too much of an excuse.
Wade Phillips took over a defense that finished 30th in yard and 29th in points in Houston in 2010 and turned it into the second- and fourth-ranked defense in yards and points.
Vic Fangio, whom Jason Garrett interviewed for the coordinator gig before Ryan, took over a San Francisco defense that finished 13th (yards) and 16th (points) in 2010 and the Niners improved to fourth and second in 2011.
Dick Jauron took Ryan’s job in Cleveland and the Browns went from 22nd in yards and 13th in points in 2010 to 10th in yards and fifth in points in 2011.
For as bad as everybody thought Juan Castillo did in Philadelphia this year, the Eagles were eighth in yards allowed and 10th in points a year after they were 12th and 22nd.
Of the 12 new coordinators in 2011, only three did not improve the numbers from 2010 to ’11 and one was San Diego’s Greg Manusky, who also interviewed with Garrett. The Chargers were first in yards and 10th in points in 2010 and were 16th and 22nd in 2011. The other two drops happened in Carolina and Minnesota.

I have no problem with Ryan instilling confidence bringing swagger. What's he going to do complain all year say well we have sorry ass players so what did you expect.
Give this team time to rebuild which it's doing as we speak turn over the old and slow with fast athletic players we will be better. As long as the needle keeps pointing up we are getting better I'm fine with Ryan and Garrett. I know there's no chance Campo or DeCamillis returns along with probably 8-11 players that got significant playing time in 2011.

I expect the coaches to stop making excuses and stop covering players' (and their own) asses. They need to instill ACCOUNTABILITY, not confidence. There's plenty of confidence out there, but nobody's willing or able to back it up. FUCK SWAGGER - I care about RESULTS.

Again what's he going to say? Newman sucks can't cover anyone. My two old inside linebackers can't stop the run, blitz, tackle, or cover a running back or TE. Is he going to attack his front 3 tell them they get no push or help Ware in any way?
He did everythingI expected of him with this lack of talent. The teams in the article you brought up didn't have major cap limitation and also had the opportunity to add talent in July and August.
There isn't one coordinator in the history of the game that could have taken this lack of talent any further then Ryan took them.

Dave's right...he can't come out and bust on the players. He was trying to give them some swagger.
He took the same team (with EFFed up players) and gave up 75 fewer points with no offseason and no mini camps to put in this much more complex 3-4 defense.
It was better. How much? Enough that we really should have won 10 or 11 games. It is still bad...that is why we'll be replacing half the defensive starters.
If he REALLY believes those guys are great, he'll bring them all back. If he was just saying that to pump them up (and hopefully get more from them) then they'll start replacing the bad ones ASAP. Hide and watch what happens.

Had this season's Cowboys played the 2010 schedule, we would have broken records for worst defense in Cowboys history. No way the numbers would have been better against the likes of:
Houston Green Bay Chicago (pre Cutler injury) New Orleans
We played alot of weak offensive teams this season and still were terrible. I don't blame Ryan for not dissing his players during the season, no way he could do that but I am also out on his "I'm the Sugar Ray Robinson of defense" act. How about mixing in some results before being overly obnoxious with your ego?
In the end though, it's not his fault that Jerry hamstrung him and Garrett with a shitty roster from game 1. We knew the secondary and O-line was crap starting in the Jets game, don't know why we would have expected some miracle coaching to fix those weaknesses.

I guess what frustrates me the most about Ryan is that his entire reputation is based on having success taking sub-par defenses and making them overachieve through his supposedly brilliant schemes, and I just never saw any of that this season. I know a lot of people believe the lockout and shorter time for him to install his complex schemes severely handicapped his ability to succeed, but I'd like to think that should have really only been a factor earlier in the season. They shouldn't have still been having communication issues, etc. late in the season.
