We controlled the game from start to finish was never a doubt in my mind we were going to win. We won every aspect of the game Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.
Offensive Notes Passing game looked awesome, Running game looked better. We had what 200+ yard rushing. Proctor will need to be replaced this week as starting left guard was a failed bit. Philly will bring the house at us and he just isn't any good. I think we all know now he isn't an answer on this team as a starter or a backup. I hope Holland is ready or they turn the thing over to McQuistan because watching Proctor was painful. Side note he does block well in limited space in the running game. I am worried about the Eagles if they keep the white Marc Rivera out there. TO should have had 2 touch downs bad call by the refs. Jason Witten dropped a 50 catch which is a shocker.
Defensive Notes Awesome despite horrible coordinator. Ever hear of a blitz moron. When you are getting pressure with 4 guys but no sacks time to bring 5. We had so many chances to get to Anderson it wasn't even funny. So many near INTs with more pressure some of those are thrown off target and picked. We stopped the run really looking forward to seeing another week.
Special Team Folk is money. The return game was solid needs to improve though. Our kick/punt coverage was really good. Lots of Mississippi Pimp spotting. I don't like Crayton back on punts hope not to see that in the future specially with so many injured WR. Pacman did fumble on a punt return but watched again and he was interfered with.

bobbland.wordpress.com/2008/09/07/week-1-cowboys-28-browns-10/It was a solid, decisive road win against a dangerous opponent. It was an impressive display of depth. It went a long way toward setting the right tone for the season. It could have been even better, believe it or not.
Some may think I’m nitpicking, but I found a few things at least mildly concerning. There doesn’t seem to be any improvement over last year’s trend toward excessive (and excessively stupid) penalties. I don’t blame Pacman for the end zone tackle, because it would have been a TD if he hadn’t, but when is Flozell ever going to learn to wait for the ball to be snapped?
Also, i was very disappointed in the lack of anything resembling a significant pass rush by the Cowboys. Other than one notable play in which Ware chopped the ball out of Anderson’s hand, the Dallas defense really didn’t put a lot of heat on the Browns QB during the game.
There were a couple of cringe-inducing plays scattered throughout the game, but as was the case with Witten’s drop of what would have been a lengthy completion, they were simply rare miscues by otherwise dependable players.
All in all, I give the Cowboys an A- for the day. Other than an ill-advised red zone interception, Romo was almost perfect. The supposed shortage of WRs never came into play, and all three RBs performed brilliantly. Next week’s showdown with the suddenly resurgent Eagles should be epic. Getcha popcorn ready…

[/blockquote][/quote] Pass rush got pressure just lacking on finishing. Anderson was on his ass 6 times. That is good. One fumble. All good. Three times ball hit DBs in the hands could have been picks.

Game Thoughts: Offense - The O-line, outside of Procter and a few penalties, I thought was exceptional. Romo could have written books behind the line at times, especially in the first half. I just wish they could have kept decent blocking on the bloody Romo play. The RB's all looked good, too bad about Barber's injury though. The WR's all looked great, no really horrible pass routes or drops (except for Witten). Romo, outside of the pick in the red zone, I thought was spot on with his reads and throws.
Defense - With the exception of the first couple of Brown drives, I thought the defense was terrific. The front 7 kept the Browns rushing attack in check for the majority of the game and did force Anderson to rush some throws eventhough they couldn't finish off with a sack. The secondary was shakey in the first quarter, especially when the Browns decided to pick on Orlando Scandrick in the secondary. I figured they would struggle a little with Newman not playing at all. They really got it together though and were fortunate to have Edwards off his game.
Special Teams - Folk was solid on his extra points and kickoffs eventhough Owens kind of screwed him with his post TD celebration in the first half. The kickoff coverage was very good, major improvement from what they showed in the preseason. Mcbriar was good as always on his punts. I didn't like Crayton being put back in punt returns and splitting time with Pacman but I think we saw, with Jone's fumble, that Crayton may be better suited when they are in obvious fair catch situations (punts going inside the 20).
So far, so good but next Monday night will really tell us alot about what this team is made of...

ok..just finished watching the game. my take:
Offense: Romo looked great minus the pick. That was a rushed throw off his back foot after Felix got crushed by McGinest. Thats the Favre in him. I'm not sure he'd make as many plays as he does if he stopped doing that kind of stuff every other game. The OL played very well. I was surprised to see Proctor pick up a couple of blitzes early and handle Shaun Rogers a couple of times (jacked him up once so hard once that Rogers' shoulder pads pushed his helmet off). Still, 80% of the time he looked lost. He seems to be at his best on the move...maybe ship him to Denver and get our pick back? They like undersized linemen that can run. Anyway, skill players on offense looked very good. TO made some nice catches, Witten looked great minus the one drop when he looked up at the safety and the others performed well enough to keep the D from focusing on just those 2. Crayton had a couple of nice grabs and Stanback even got in on the action. Barber was Barber, dude is a stud. Felix looked quick and decisive on his TD run and powered into the end zone from the 2 1/2 yard line with 3 guys there. Nice to see a little power from him. Tashard Choice looks like he was a steal. He played well on special teams and looked good carrying the ball late too. Cricket is the real deal at FB. The running game just looks better when he is in there at the point of attack.
Defense: Tank and Ratliff on the DL along with Canty looks awesome and I'm going to give credit where credit is due. Last year Dave said something about possibly moving Ratliff out and making Spears a NT. I didn't think he was strong enough or physical enough but as a sub-package it looks like a real good switch. Spears made a couple of nice tackles include one stone cold stop behind the line on Lewis. The LBs did a good job with backs and the 2nd TE. The front 7 seemed to get decent pressure, but like Dave said they have GOT to FINISH and get the sacks. That is a pretty good OL up on CLE though. We're gonna see a few of those this year with NY and Philly. Stewart has got to get more creative with his blitzes. Maybe he is saving something for Philly? If not, Wade needs to get involved...that is his area of extreme expertise. I do get the feeling that when we get sacks, they are going to come in bunches.
Secondary looked pretty solid considering that we're missing Newman. Scandrick doesn't look like a 5th round pick. He along with Tashard Choice are some real steals on the 2nd day of the draft. How about this, I know we moved guys around to keep Roy from getting ISO'd with Winslow, but he even looked pretty good when he was in coverage against other guys. Maybe he is watching film now?? Considering Winslow is about as good or better than any TE we'll face this year (and everyone knows how much I hate that guy, but he is a monster) I think we held up very well. I'm excited to see what we can do with a healthy Newman back there. Hopefully he'll be on the field Monday night vs the Eagles.
Special Teams: Kicking and punting were fine and the coverage units look much improved with the Mississippi Pimp back on the field. Return game was average and must get better because field position can play a crucial role in tight games against better teams.

I wonder what Tashard Choice is worth come the off season if he keeps up playing this well. Kid is good. He was a great steal. Proves the fat tuna had nothing to do with drafting great talent.

or do we just stay with the 3 and be set for the next 3 years no worries at RB.

just depends on what happens this year and his value next year. We seem to find decent RBs pretty easy. I think Coleman or Lattimore would make decent 3rd RBs if Choice wasn't here (even though he is clearly better than either of them). I'd be perfectly happy keeping him as our 3rd RB, but I'd be ok with dealing him if it meant adding a big young playmaker at WR next year too...

True a real number 2 wide out for a season would be great. It is funny his value will probably be up to a 2nd rounder if he keeps up the work he is doing now. We could just draft a guy next season in the second round.

already assuming Columbo will walk? I kind of think they are gonna have to let him, with so much money already spent on the OL....That is the spot I'm hoping McQ ends up in. I think he is perfect for RT. He looks like a Columbo starter kit already.
