Since I haven't done movie reviews in awhile, here are some quick hits on what I have seen in 2013.
Mama - Good but dragged a little at times. The kids were kind of annoying and I didn't think it was very scary but it was mostly entertaining. The theater we watched it in had lots of over the top audience screaming, so it must have been doing something right. Thumbs kind of up.
Identity Thief - I wanted to like it but the rip off part felt a little too close to home. It had funny parts but I found myself wanting more comeuppance on the chick and didn't laugh very much. Cam from Modern Family's character was solid though. Thumbs sideways and I should probably give it another chance sometime.
A Good Day to Die Hard - AWESOME! It was ridiculously over the top and I loved it. If you go in not expecting a great story line and can overlook huge plot holes, it was a hell of a fun ride. Big thumbs up!
Snitch - Pretty good, especially since I didn't go in expecting much. The Rock did a decent acting job but had a hard time buying his soft business man character. Probably could have cast someone more believable in that role and I thought the end could have been better. Thumbs kind of up.
21 & Over - Very funny, a good cross between Project X and The Hangover for college kids. The friendship and suicide parts drag the movie down a little but it had more than enough comedic hi jinks to keep things flowing. The main guy (Miles Teller) had kind of a cool young Vince Vaughn vibe to him. Big thumbs up!
Oz the Great and Powerful - Entertaining and better than I was expecting. I'm not a huge Wizard of Oz fan boy but I appreciated the ties to the original and it had enough action to keep things flowing well. Zach Braff as the flying monkey had good schtick. Thumbs up!
