mavsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/02/michael-jordan-dirk-nowitzki-one-of-only-four-current-nba-players-who-could-be-successful-in-my-era.html/An interesting Dirk Nowitzki mention can be found in the midst of a lengthy piece that was recently written about Michael Jordan. The NBA’s greatest player and six-time champion turns 50 on Sunday. In a feature written by Wright Thompson for ESPN The Magazine Jordan touches on several topics, including: Which current NBA players could be nearly as successful in his era? “I’ll give you a hint,” Jordan said. “I can only come up with four.” His list? LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Nowitzki. Yup, the 34-year-old Dallas Mavericks star made the cut. Sure, Nowitzki is already considered an NBA legend, a lock Hall of Famer and someone who should get a statue outside of American Airlines Center when his playing career is over. But getting approval from Jordan has to make Nowitzki extremely proud. After all, as a youth, Nowitzki had posters of Air Jordan on the walls of his home in Germany. When discussing the players in the league today, Wright wrote that Jordan “over and over again” called them “soft, coddled and ill-prepared for the highest level of the game.” Obviously, Nowitzki has proved that he doesn’t fall into any of those categories.

Although I think Jordan is the greatest ever, I also think he is suffering from a little bit of "good old days" syndrome. I don't disagree with his 4 choices, but I think a few others would have been stars 30 years ago too.

Really cool praise from MJ about Dirk. And I think you're dead on...there are a handful of additional players that could play at the same level back then that they are at now. Kevin Durant can score in any era.
