I'm so amused at the dallas meeja saying Kiffin is a terrible hire and Kelly is a great one. Maybe it will turn out that way, but seriously how often does a GREAT college coach make the transition and stink it up (answer, nearly always). Saban couldn't do it. Spurrier couldn't do it. Most of them can't. I'll remain skeptical...if Andy Reid couldn't win with them, I'm not so sure Chip Kelly can.
Now, how often does one of the greatest D-Coord in the last 30 years go from producing a top 10 NFL defense (in scoring, not just yards) for 10 straight year and then he just forgets everything he knows? I don't care that he wasn't great in college. College is about recruiting (he wasn't anywhere long enough to recruit and develop players).
Kiffin's skills at the NFL level are a KNOWN quantity...and they are KNOWN to be AMAZING. Kelly is an unknown. Maybe he is Jimmy Johnson. Maybe he is Lou Holtz.

Very true. Plus, how much say did Kiffin have in saying what players he wanted at Tennessee or USC? Even if he got the players he wanted, like you said, he wasn't at either place long enought to see them through.
On another note, it looks like Junior's special teams kryptonite is going to the Bears.

yeah, sideline frankenstein is a bear
Kiffin was at TENN for one year...none of the players were his. He was at USC for 2 years. They were on probation so reduced scholarships. Chip Kelly has had years at Oregon to recruit his guys and build his team. Kiffin had to allow others to go get 18 yr old kids to run his scheme or make due with what was there.

Yep...Kiffin got shafted on his talent in college.

I also do not fear Chip Kelly, and am on board with Kiffin, but I still thought this line Jake Z tweeted was pretty funny:
"Monte Kiffin's death certificate will read, CAUSE OF DEATH: CHIP KELLY."

Saw another funny line - this one posted to Deadspin by a commenter:
"Why would the Eagles replace Andy Reid with another lame duck coach."
Good schtick.

What if all this stripping of playcalling and firing his brother DOES make Jason quit? How good would our defense be with Kiffin running it and Lovie Smith as the head coach? They have the same philosophies running the 4-3. Callahan could stick around to run the offense (if that is ok with Smith)….not saying it is likely, but Lovie IS still out there and the “Jason isn’t safe” talk just won’t quit.

I'd be on board with that.
