Not starting off well.
Young is gone - this is a plus in my book. I know he has been a leader in the clubhouse, but the young guys he has been leading are growing up and taking over those roles. We needed to get younger, give guys like Profar and Olt a chance to play more, and shed at least some of that $16M salary.
Josh - I wouldn't have given him 5 yrs and $125M. Sorry, but wrong side of 30, too streaky, and too much drama in the clubhouse. He is an amazing player and I'm not looking forward to facing him in the division (didn't worry about that with CJ) but it is what it is.
Napoli - take away the magical season 2 years ago and he has been ok, but the thing I'll miss the most about him is how he punished the Angels. Other than that, he was alright but ultimately replaceable.
Greinke - I was nearly convinced he was destined to be a Ranger. His wife is a former Cowboys cheerleader. He prefers smaller markets where things move a little slower. He was "blown away" by his meeting with Nolan. We have money. We are a young, winning organization. I just really thought he'd be here. Then to see guys like Sheilds get traded elsewhere just made it tougher.
Now we are talking to AJ Pierzynski (surely I spelled that wrong, but I'm not going to bother to look it up), Ibanez, Cody Ross and a few others. I'm not worried too much about the bats. I'd like to see maybe Adam LaRoche for a shorter deal (2-3 years max) but I'm not sure he is an improvement at this point over Moreland.
What else is out there? I think we have to be looking at trades now, because free agency has some JAGs, but few real impact players.
