It was better than I was expecting going in. Since it was a Sam Raimi, I thought it had a chance to be better than the normal cookie cutter exorcism-possession flicks of the last several years and it was. The story was engaging, the acting was solid (although seeing The Comedian as a basketball coach was off putting) and the direction of the horror scenes was well done. I never thought it was overly cheesy although some of the characters were annoying (especially The Closer).
Overall, thumbs up but probably more of a matinee showing type unless you are just a huge fan of the genre. If you enjoyed Raimi's last horror movie (Drag Me to Hell), you will definitely enjoy this one.

This looked like "The Ring" to me, which I rank among the worst movies I've ever seen.
