Mahimi is leaving, Deron probably staying in NJ (since Howard is demanding a trade there), Nash likely to get 3yrs and $12M from Toronto. The FA market is a little thin. Ray Allen has Boston and Miami bidding on him, loser to likely go after Jason Terry. Kidd will likely sign where ever Deron does.
We will always have 2011. RIP.

What's happening now is so crazy. At least the Stars signed a couple guys they were targeting...

Man, worse case scenario happened for the Mavs. Gave up a chance to repeat and no big game FA to show for it apparently.

Yep, things are looking pretty bleak. Just wish that they had bit the bullet and resigned Chandler, understand the risks but just hated to see him leave.
Oh well, as Gary said, at least we have 2011.

I hated to see Chandler leave too, but signing guys on the wrong side of 30 with an injury history (significant) can be very bad for your team. NBA contracts are guaranteed and you can't amnesty contracts signed after the CBA was in place, only the old ones. He could have destroyed the cap for 4-5 years. I'm ok with the gamble, it just looks like it isn't going to pay off.

Ok...offseason took a good turn today.
Mavs sign Kaman to a one year deal, then traded Ian Mahimi (S&T) to Indy for Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones. Collison is a quick PG, like Barea was (but better) that should really thrive in Dallas. His 23+ PER in the playoffs was pretty impressive. Jones is a very big, athletic SG that specializes in physical defense (think Deshawn Stevenson but a little bigger and more athletic).
Next, we are going to amnesty Haywood, put in a bid on the amnestied Elton Brand, and then likely re-sign Delonte West around the end of the week.
PG - Collison/West/Roddy/Dojo SG - Jones/Carter/Roddy/Dojo SF - Marion/Carter PF - Dirk/Marion/Brand C - Kaman/Brand
We also have the 3 kids (Cunningham, Capt America, and Crowder) but they are likely end of the bench of maybe even getting some D-League time.
It isn't D-Will but it is pretty solid and we are still $6M below the cap and most of those guys are on one year deals so we can take another run at big fish next year.

Pretty solid moves, especially the Pacers brainfart of giving away Collison and Jones for nothing. Kaman is a definite upgrade over Haywood. Not a championship roster but definitely a playoff team.

2 years ago wasn't a championship roster either. I just want a truly competitive team that has a shot at getting hot at the right time.

It's something and I like the fact that we got younger. I'm happy that Jason Terry is gone, Chris is giving me crap about him leaving. He will probably do well in Boston (and I hope he does) but his cocky attitude just ticked me off.

You can say I'm full of blue Kool-Aid, but that starting 5 and bench is actually pretty decent. For the most part, the starters will always look ok when 41 is out there.

I really think this is close to the model of the 2011 team. Kaman scores more than Chandler but doesn't have his defense (although he isn't bad). Brand is flat out better than Haywood who was hurt in the finals, so that is an upgrade. Collison is a better version of JJB. West takes over the JET role (may not score quite as much, but is a MUCH better defender). Jones is the Kidd/Stevenson defender. He is actually bigger and more athletic than both. He doesn't have Kidd's BBIQ, but he can do things Kidd can't do (from a youth perspective). Marion is Marion. Dirk is Dirk.
This team can be good. WILL they be? Time will tell...but they certainly CAN.

No Scola...we made a bid but just the minimum. Team has shaped up nicely though, regardless.
