ESPN is reporting that Lamar Odom and the Mavericks have parted ways!
Stein says Odom told ESPN.com: "The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team. I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."
I say don't let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya!

Losing Chandler and replacing him with Lamar was a death blow this year. It might be worth it if Mavs sign Williams and trade for Howard in the off-season though...

I don't want to sound like a knee jerk fan but at this point it looks like it is a lost season. We've wasted a year.

I said before the Finals last year that if we could just pull off that miracle then I would accept whatever after that. Well, right now we're getting 'whatever'. I think the lockout hurt us alot. I think the changing landscape of the salary cap and how penalties are calculated, etc forced us into some decisions. Chandler is a guy that has been hurt most of his career. If we give him a long term, big money deal and he gets hurt again everyone would say what a bunch of morons our front office is. Dirk is within his final 3-4 years probably. I just don't think he will want to play until he is 40. I don't think he looks at life quite the same as most of us. Cuban and Donnie tried to have their cake and eat it too. If they could contend this year while setting themselves up to be big players this offseason they could prop the franchise back up for the next decade. If Odom doesn't crap the bed, this team would be very dangerous this year again. He did. Now we just have to make the best of the situation.
Now, maybe...just MAYBE this lights a fire within the team. The pouty Odom is gone. Locker room gets better, Vets are no longer trying to get through a shortened season with tons of games crammed into a tight timeline. Just get into the playoffs and then roll the dice.
I don't think the season is over, but then again I thought Portland had a real shot at us in the playoffs last year and I really wasn't sure of getting past OKC (though I did feel good about the Lakers series). That is the wonderful part of sports. If we all knew what was going to happen, would we even watch?

I agree Gary - last year's magical run was so much fun, I'm OK with what ever happens this season. I agree that dropping Odom just might help the team to kick it up a gear. I'm sure that Mark and Donnie might want a "do over" with Chandler's contract but they did what they think was best under the new salary cap rules.
We will see what happens the rest of the season and will see if Bob and Junior get to experiance one more fun ride with their Spurs.

They have quality players at every position 2-3 deep and Popovich has actually not tried to outsmart himself and played the best players the minutes they are suppose to play (except for not playing Splitter enough). Swapping Jefferson for Jackson turned an at best 2nd round fodder team into a contender.

dangit, i went flapping my gums too much yesterday about the spurs, then they go out last night and lay a turd against the spare jazz The concerning loss was the one against the Lakers the next night sans Kobe...just embarrassing. They have won 2 straight since then though, including a tough win over Memphis to sweep that series 4-0...hopefully that dominance extends to the playoffs.
