March 19, 2012 Released G Kyle Kosier. March 16, 2012 Signed G Nate Livings to a five-year contract. March 15, 2012 Agreed to terms with S Brodney Pool. March 14, 2012 Agreed to terms with CB Brandon Carr on a five-year contract and QB Kyle Orton on a three-year contract. Signed OL Mackenzy Bernadeau to a four-year contract and FB Lawrence Vickers to a two-year contract. March 13, 2012 Released K David Buehler and CB Terence Newman. Tendered contract offers to DE Clifton Geathers and OT Jermey Parnell. March 5, 2012 Desginated LB Anthony Spencer as the franchise player. I like all the moves so far with the exception of bringing Anthony Spencer back for the franchise money and releasing Kosier. I would have liked if we could have brought Kosier back and moved him to center since he already makes all the line calls. I hope we still go after Decastro in the draft because I don't have alot of faith that both of the OG's we signed will pan out. In the draft, we should go after OG, WR, S, OLB-DE and CB.

GREAT free agent batch! Only one concern...
I'm nervous about all these reports they're talking about on The Ticket stating Nate Livings was rated as THE WORST LEFT GUARD IN THE NFL last year. Sturm had an extensive rant yesterday about how much Livings apparently sucks. I'll give the guy a chance, but it does make you wonder what the Cowboys see that everyone else doesn't.

Actually, it isn't just the Cowboys. From Blogging The Boys:
Final Analysis: Nate Livings played four games in 2011 that told me the Bengals misused him. Cincinnati employs five big, strong O-Lineman that aren't the best in space. RG Bobbie Williams is very good but like the rest of the line, offers nothing in space. So the team used Livings and the 5th lineman than operated in the 2nd level or pulled on run plays. When Bobbie Williams missed the first 4-games of 2011, Livings acted as the power OG on their line. He played very well taking the DT head on and moving him. In pass pro, OC Kyle Cook and rookie RG Clint Boling were tag-team partners and allowed Livings to handle his man one-on-one. Again, he looked really good. Grading Livings efficiency the entire year (minus those 4-games), he ended up being a 81.0% Run Blocker and 91.9% Pass Blocker. Solid, but in those four games where he was the power guard, he had a Run Block efficiency of 86.6% and Pass Blocking of 94.2%. It's not much in numbers, but it was also a visual improvement. I really think his mistakes could be cut down with less mental responsibilities. He's like the CB who gets burned every other game but plays good the other 60 snaps. Fans will remember that one TD let up. Nate Livings was that for Bengals fans. Hopefully Dallas can use him to his strengths.

I'm not saying he'll be great, but these things get evaluated by scouts and personnel directors differently than they do by guys on the radio. They look at what they do well and what they don't do well, and then decide if they fit in your scheme and what you plan to ask them to do.

My guess is the Cowboys still plan on drafting DeCastro, and Livings is seen as added depth.

I think Livings and Bernadeau take the place of Holland and Kosier. They wanted vets in case they don't have kids that are ready. If they could get Decastro and Nagy takes the other spot, I think they would be ok with that. If nobody else is ready, they'll roll out with these two.
