WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski The Spurs have decided to use the amnesty clause on contract of Richard Jefferson, league sources tell Y! Sports. He has 3 years, $30M left. Timing makes sense since it comes after they met with Josh Howard and Caron Butler, one of them must have signed with us. I'm hoping for Butler...

Looks like Butler might be the guy... Via J-Mac from Express News...
Not long before word of Jefferson’s impending release broke, free agent Caron Butler wrapped up a visit in San Antonio his agent, Raymond Brothers, said “went flawlessly.”
“He felt comfortable here,” Brothers said. “I’m waiting for (the Spurs) to call and discuss it. All I can tell you is, he really liked it.”
Though Butler has already visited the Los Angeles Clippers and still plans to visit the New Jersey Nets — two teams that can offer more than the $5 million mid-level exception that will be available to the Spurs after Jefferson is waived — one league source said the Spurs are now considered the front-runner to land him.
Butler has also met with representatives from Chicago, which can also offer only the $5 million mid-level exception.
The Spurs are also considering Washington small forward Josh Howard, who visited Tuesday, among other candidates to fill their small-forward void.
One factor that might entice Butler to San Antonio, his agent said, was the chance to play for coach Gregg Popovich. Asked if he believed the Spurs had a strong chance of signing Butler, Brothers said, “Absolutely.”
“He’s not wasting his time,” Brothers said “He’s wasn’t in San Antonio today to be nice.”

But isn't it all about the cash with these guys? Would he take a 50% decrease to play in SA? Seems unlikely....guess we'll find out soon enough.

He would start in LA at SF, wouldn't he? He is better than Ryan Gomes.

I'm hoping he goes to LA and we end up doing a S&T for Kaman. He is a $12M expiring.

I would think he would start over Gomes...not sure why he would be so enamored to come here unless he just has alot of respect for Pop and the Spurs organization. I was hoping for Kaman to come to the Spurs also but I don't think we have the trade assets to get him. If we added Butler AND Kaman, I think our title contention window would open for at least another year.

Jefferson didn't get amnestied after all. Guess the Spurs plan to tank the season and try to get into the lottery. It's the only explanation for keeping that piece of shit another year at 10 million.

You still have Matt Bonner don't you? What else could you need? If Matt Bonner sees significant minutes (which he will), there is no doubt that the Spurs are tanking the season. Hopefully the tank magic continues for us...

Parker feels the same way: From Fish:
Tony Parker himself seems to have admitted to the same thoughts.
“At the start of (last) season, I said this was our last chance,’’ Parker told “L’Equipe” last May. “Tim and Gino are getting old. It’s going to be tough to regenerate ourselves. We will always have a good team, but we can no longer say that we’re playing for a championship.”
Yes, maybe that’s foolish of us to say about a Popovich coached team, but we didn't say it; Tony Parker did.

He is absolutely right...which is why we should blow it up and start over. Trade Parker and Manu, let Duncan retire and start over with Dwight Howard using the big 3's open salary slots. If not, we will just be spinning our wheels.
