Thoughts? Predictions?
Jets 31 Cowboys 20
This will probably be the Cowboys' worst game of the year, mainly because it is the first game of the season (they've been more negatively impacted by the lockout than most teams, due to new defensive schemes and change of key players on OL and other positions - just not enough time to be fully prepared yet). Add to that the fact they are being thrown into the middle of the 9/11 buzzsaw, and it's a recipe for disaster.
Like George said this morning, this is NOT going to cause the rest of their season to unravel or set a negative tone for the year, etc. It's just an unfortunate bit of scheduling. With SF and the Redskins on their schedule the following two weeks, it won't take very long at all to right the ship again.

Jets 34 Cowboys 14
I will write up my Cowboys thoughts and predictions for the year later but I think this game will have alot of the issues that will plague the team for a majority of the season. Pass protection and shaky run defense will be the downfall of this team in this game and a most of 2011-2012.

According to Matt Moseley, Newman is OUT for the Jets game, so looks like it will be Scandrick and Jenkins. May need to revise my score prediction...

Doesn't matter. Season over. It was over before these injuries... You think Green Bay thought that last year when they lost half their team for the season? I know I thought it was over when Caron Butler blew up his knee. Maybe we'll go ahead and show up and play. You two should just go buy jerseys for a new team. I've never seen anyone as much of a fair weather fan as you two. What if Tyron plays (Broaddus said the MRI is clean and they are going to check his knee again tomorrow). What if Jenkins plays (they said there is a good chance he will). What if we lose this game and then in a week or two the defense starts to get it together as we get guys back and they get better at the defense, which they didn't get to learn in OTAs? You know, that is the script the NY Giants used to win the Superbowl just a couple of years ago. They started off by getting BLASTED in the first couple of games because they were learning a new defense and had a few injuries. Then they got healthy and started to gel. We beat them twice in the regular season and they lost the finale to New England. Then they beat us, then they won the Superbowl. These kinds of story lines are what makes the game fun. If we all KNEW what was going to happen, who would watch? No way the defending Superbowl Champion Saints would lose to a 7-9 Seattle team AT HOME in the playoffs, would they? Why not show the slightest bit of support for your team instead of whining like a couple of 10 year old girls with a bruised knee?

Agree to disagree I guess...hard to have faith when the Titanic is taking on water around my feet. There is nothing wrong with seeing this team for what it is, being a fan does not require blind optimism and bringing up exception instead of the norm. For every Giants team that overcame a slow start and had tons of injury to win the Superbowl, there is probably 20 teams in that teamspan since that looked bad in the preseason, had injuries and...shockingly...had a bad season after all. I will always hope for the best and I haven't latched on to another team to get through the season...if the Cowboys prove me wrong, I will gladly admit it and let you say "I told you so..."

but you guys claim the water is coming in over your feet because you ONLY see the bad. Nevermind that Costa, Spears, and Austin all returned to practice. That doesn't matter. It only matters that some d-bag with no idea says that Smith and Jenkins are out, when the Cowboys website says Smith is day to day and Jenkins is likely to play.

I think you're absolutely right that the Cowboys should continue to get better as the season progresses. I just got defeated by the news of the Tyron Smith injury yesterday, as if this team needed anything else to go wrong headed into NY. I let my frustration get the best of me and kneejerked with one of my typical patented overreactions. Of course I really don't think the season is over. I'm just ready for the team to start getting a little good luck for a change, as it seems to be stuck in a pretty long streak of bad luck this entire offseason. I picked the Cowboys to finish 2nd in the East and to claim a Wild Card spot - I stand by that pick, despite my theatrics earlier in this thread to the contrary.

Why would the Cowboys website say anything other than day to day? No way they tip their hand and declare him out this early in the week...doesn't mean both of them aren't hurt and not able to play up to 100% come game time. Honestly, they could both have broken legs and I think they would be listed as day to day... If they can't practice in the next few days...that will be the biggest indicator of playing.
