Great move by the Cowboys today. Holland can't get healthy and get on the field (and really, he needs to be the backup guard). Arkin has looked good, but they prefer to have a veteran next to Tyron to talk to him and help him with looks, and likewise with Arkin.
Boom...Cowboys move Kosier over to RG to help Smith, and move Arkin over to LG between Free and Gurode. Great move...if this sticks, I think it will pay off big.

Smart to move Kosier over to help Smith with OL calls and showing him his assignments...don't trust Arkin as a starting guard and Holland is just a big body that takes up space but not really a legit starter...we REALLY need to sign someone to shore up that line.

Arkin is tearing it up. It is the "we have to have a veteran" mentality that prevents us from developing young linemen. Goose says every year before the draft that the Cowboys are the only team that won't play young linemen and develop them, and that is why we are always throwing huge cash at guys like BIGG and Marco Rivera. Arkin will be the starter this year, whether it is week 1 or week 4 and he will do a better job, a more consistent job, than Bigg did for the past 2 years.

I'll withhold judgement on Arkin until I see him play but I just don't trust a 4th round rookie starting for us right off the bat.

Brian Watters would be a nice alternative...hell, I would have taken signing Kruetz and moved Gurode to guard. Just because I don't trust Arkin doesn't mean I want Bigg back...

Gurode was terrible as a guard. Waters would be a nice choice, but I'll wait to see what happens with Arkin in preseason first. You can always get a veteran "stop gap" after final cuts if you really need to.

If we wait too long, all the quality stop gaps could be scooped up...Gurode was a bad guard 5 years ago, he could have improved since then...

Gurode is pretty much an average center too...I have no reason to think a position change is going to help him. He will limp his bad knees through this season and then he'll probably be gone. Expect more of Phil Costa at center and Bill Nagy will be in the mix there...Goose was VERY high on him and said today that he thinks he'll end up playing for us at some point this year. Every other team breaks in young OL...that is how they develop. Hell, even Stephen Peterman is the starter up in Detroit.

Smith and Arkin were impressive in their first game action...I think this is VERY promising.
