With all the "failed Dutch Oven" talk by Bob, the Rangers have gone on a hot streak that I've never seen before.
Funny, but without Big Dave here, nobody seems really interested in talking baseball. Seriously though, a full trip through the rotation and we've give up 2 runs in 56 innings. I've never seen that before that I can recall.
12 straight wins and I'm sure my enthusiasm (and support of Holland) means it comes to an end tonight, but WOW....these guys are on quite a roll.

I'll be more into talking baseball in a week or so...I really really want to get back to talking baseball...

i promise not to throw the dutch oven under the bus if he gets lit up tonight must...keep...promise... any gambler will tell you to bet against the streak....law of averages, it was going to come crashing down and SOON. He had 2 VERY good outings in a row. He is very young...that roller coaster pitching performance was to be expected. That is why he is a #5 starter and not a #2 or #3...yet.

He didn't have a bad inning because we were up 8-3. He had a bad inning because he is young and inconsistent. Would you feel better if it had been 1-1 and we lost 6-1 because he had a bad inning. You really think one had something to do with the other?

I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but he is very similar to Roy Halladay in his early years in TOR. Games of awesomeness mixed with games where he looks lost mixed with games where he looks great, but has the bad inning that balloons his numbers and makes it look like he had a horrible game instead of a decent game where one inning did him in.

I don't mind the comparison simply because I know that we're all capable of understanding that the similarity doesn't mean he'll become Roy Halladay, it just means he has the potential to develop into a VERY nice pitcher.

You really think one had something to do with the other? i understand what you're saying, but a pitcher also must have situational awareness and realize when a shutdown inning (or at least something reasonably approaching it) is in order holland's got all the natural physical talent in the world, but at some point (and i realize it may still be too soon now, because he's still young) what appears to us as inconsistency may just end up being lack of mental focus/awareness (perhaps even lack of intelligence) the two pitchers from rangers past that keep coming to mind are bobby witt and roger pavlik - both were guys with great arms who proved too effing stupid (in pavlik's case, full-on retarded) to have sustained success my fear is holland may be heading down that same path NOW, THAT BEING SAID, I THINK THE WISE THING AT THIS POINT IS TO SIMPLY LET MADDUX KEEP WORKING WITH HOLLAND AND SEE WHERE THINGS STAND AS WE GET INTO NEXT SEASON. IF HOLLAND REMAINS WILDLY INCONSISTENT INTO NEXT SEASON, THAT'S PROBABLY THE TIME YOU HAVE TO START THINKING SERIOUSLY ABOUT HIS FUTURE

go find me those 5th starters that are just flat out better than him....he is what you get from a 5th starter...inconsistent, and that is what he is....inconsistent. If he didn't have the mental fortitude, how did he go 3 1/3 scoreless against the Yankees in a tight playoff game last year?
