Portion of an article on the Cowboys website:
By the end of the weekend, the Cowboys had filled officially seven of the eight practice-squad spots. It also appears that quarterback Richard Bartel will be added to the practice squad before Monday's practice.
However, Bartel's future with the Cowboys is rather unclear.
That's because the club is looking into signing a third quarterback to the active roster behind starter Tony Romo and veteran backup Brad Johnson.
Although Chris Simms, who was cut by the Buccaneers on Saturday, has been linked to the Cowboys, it appears they have their eyes set on another veteran signal caller.
Brooks Bollinger, who played against the Cowboys last Thursday and was cut by the Vikings, could join the Cowboys next week, possibly after Week 1 of the regular season. Vested veterans, (five years of NFL experience) on an active roster on the first Tuesday of the regular season have a guaranteed contract all season long.
That is why teams will usually wait to sign some veterans until after the first week of the regular season and that seems to be the case with Bollinger.

Hey, Bollinger is one of those guys that might be a nice, long term backup QB...just get it all sorted out for the next 3-4 years without worrying about it...

I definitely would not mind him being here. Give him a out OL and offensive weapons....I like him better than Johnson or Bartel.

Agreed....at least he can throw an out that doesn't flutter.

I'd rather have Simms than Bollinger...

Then Wade can answer questions at his press conferences...

Well seeing Brad Johnson is just our holder, and if something bad were to happen don't think Simms or Bollinger could lead us to a Super Bowl. Answer to all questions then is sign Cullpepper.

But Culpepper wants to compete for the starting position. That isn't happening here.

Culpepper has been terrible for 5 years...might want to back off his jock just a little. Simms would be better, but I get the feeling he is MUCH more in demand than Bollinger, who will be coming here initially as our #3 but could stick around for several years as the backup...something Simms wouldn't do. Also, NOBODY thought Jeff Hostetler could win a Superbowl with the Giants, but he did. Don't discount any of these guys with our defense and running game and other weapons on offense...anything is possible.

Yeah sure Culpepper league MVP, he sucked. Hooked up with two really bad teams and he is all to blame.

I think Simms is nice only as a backup at this point. I think Bollinger is a backup too. I think one or two games we are fine with those types of guys. I think anything other then holding for kicks we are screwed with Brad Johnson.
