#3 was quite interesting....sorry Bob. sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2011/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=greatestseries-1-5Due to a quirk in seeding, Dallas and San Anotnio met each other in the second round in 2006 despite each winning 60 regular-season games. But even though it happened a little early, these Texas rivals gave us an absolute classic -- in fact, this series had the highest raw score of any series, at 34.4. Five of the seven games were within two points at the end of regulation, including two that went to overtime. One of those OT games was the last one, with a Dirk Nowitzki and-1 basket, tying the game with 21 seconds left in regulation. That proved the difference, as the Mavs won in overtime on the road en route to their first Finals appearance. But up until then it looked like the Mavs would be lamenting the one that got away. Dallas was up 3-1 in the series and led by 20 in the finale before falling behind. The Mavs also lost Game 6 in part because guard Jason Terry was suspended after punching Michael Finley in a scrum near the end of Game 5. That contest was another classic, with neither team scoring in the final 1:59, and Bruce Bowen's last-second block of Nowitzki's shot saving the 98-97 San Antonio win. The opener wasn't too shabby either, with Dallas' Jerry Stackhouse memorably passing up an open 2-pointer to dribble out to the 3-point line on the last play -- even though his team was down only two points. His contested look missed badly.

even though i hated the outcome, i can't argue the fact it was definitely a great series
can't believe they actually put a series that ended in SIX as #2...CRAZY
i think #6 should probably be #1
also, i don't subscribe to insider so i don't know where this ranks, but that bulls-celtics series from a couple years ago where just about every game went into OT has to be top 5 (so, espn is wrong)

I didn't think those Bulls-Jazz series were all that great...the 1992 Bulls-Suns series was better than either of those...their early 90's series against Riley's Knicks were better also...

well, that particular series went into OT 4 times with a total of 7 OT periods so I get Bob's point...I didn't care anything about either team so I don't think much of the series either.
I would not have thought that Mavs - Spurs series would have been so high though, in the all time list. It is on MY list...just didn't know it would be on ESPNs.

The series Bob was talking about was the Bulls-Celtics series from a few years ago and he was right about that one, all 7 of those games were barn burners... I was referring to the Malone vs Jordan series from 97 and 98 on the list, outside of some great games by Jordan himself, the series were kind of boring.

I still don't care about either team, so other than watching the highlights at the time I kind of forgot about it happening.
That is why I find it surprising that Mavs - Spurs was that high on the list. I know I found it thrilling, but I had no idea that it was viewed that highly by national media. I don't watch the others (especially eastern conference) that thoroughly, so I just thought my appreciation for that series was because of my Mavs-love.

This year's Finals will make this list with the close games and the drama. The destruction of the "big 3" is complete. I don't like calling them that though, considering they couldn't beat us even with Butler AND Haywood out. Bitches.
