www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/2/23/2009781/devin-harris-mavericks-nba-trade-rumorsIf NBA trade rumors suggests one thing right now, it's that Devin Harris will almost assuredly be traded somewhere by the New Jersey Nets by Thursday's deadline. The Nets have floated Harris all season, and were once hoping to include him in a Carmelo Anthony trade. That fell apart when 'Melo went to the New York Knicks, leaving the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks as the top remaining suitors for the former All-Star point guard.
Al Iannazzone of the Bergen Record reports that the Mavericks are the favorites to land Harris. The Nets want Caron Butler's expiring contract, rookie Dominique Jones and a first-round pick in exchange for Harris. ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the Mavericks will only give up Butler.
Harris, of course, came into the league with the Mavericks. He thrived there as a young scoring point guard, but Dallas, looking to get over the top, dealt him to New Jersey in exchange for veteran star Jason Kidd in 2008. Dallas sent New Jersey a couple of picks, too, but the Nets flipped those and, all told, haven't gotten much out of the deal.
Whether Harris would start over Kidd in Dallas or join Jason Terry's bench crew remains to be seen. Iannazzone reports the Nets are seeking, in addition to the expiring contracts of Andre Miller and Joel Przybilla, former No. 1 pick Greg Oden from the Blazers. That is almost assuredly not going to happen. Hmmm...would he just be Kidd's backup?

they were talking this morning on the ticket about the possibility of playing devin, roddy and kidd all at the same time - with devin and roddy being the backcourt speedsters and kidd being a spot-up shooter

Ben and Skin are saying the Mavs were after Devin to flip him for Deron. I also heard Williams isn't happy about going to NJ.

Here is the unofficial info... hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/02/23/surprise-nets-land-d-will/?ls=iref:nbahpt1Did Mikhail Prokhorov just trump the Knicks?
A source close to the situation has confirmed reports from The Record and Yahoo! that the New Jersey Nets have reached an agreement with the Utah Jazz on a trade that will bring point guard Deron Williams to New Jersey for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and two first round picks. The trade call is expected to happen “within the hour,” says the source.
So basically, the Nets got (arguably) a better player than Carmelo Anthony for less than what they were offering the Denver Nuggets for Melo.
Nets get: G Deron Williams
Jazz get: G Devin Harris F Derrick Favors 2011 first-round pick (from Nets) 2012 first-round pick (Nets via Warriors)
The picks are the Nets’ unprotected pick this year and the Warriors pick next year (protected 1-7).
The Nets may also send, in a separate deal, Troy Murphy to the Golden State Warriors for Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright. New Jersey doesn’t play until Friday (in San Antonio), so they’ve got time to get their new players situated before they play.
Of course, this prompts so many questions …
Will the Nets now target Dwight Howard in 2012?
Could the Knicks have gotten Williams instead of Anthony?
Will Williams, who can choose to become a free agent in 2012, be happy playing for Avery Johnson?
Did the Jazz know that they weren’t keeping Williams beyond next season?
And how did this happen so quickly?

I wonder if Cuban is putting his sights on Williams free agent season. I'm sure he would love to get a local kid back in town and playing for the Mavs.

We were trying to get Devin to flip him for Deron. We are VERY well positioned for 2012. We have tons of expirings next year including Kidd and Terry. Haywood will likely be moved and his salary replaced by an extension for Tyson Chandler. We have Roddy who would work very well next to Deron, much the way he does Kidd (since Kidd and Deron are big PGs). We will still have Dirk, Marion, Chandler (likely) and young guys like Mahinmi and Roddy B.

We only (currently) have $37M in contracts for that year.
Haywood counts nearly $9M. I'm betting that is about what we re-sign Chandler for, and Haywood will likely be traded to Portland or some other team starving for a center.
