This would be really bad news for both the Spurs and Mavs... sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/news/story?id=6101304The Denver Nuggets have had preliminary discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers on a Carmelo Anthony trade, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Tuesday.
The Lakers' package would be built around center Andrew Bynum. Denver has no interest in Ron Artest and isn't particularly interested in Lamar Odom either, sources said. A straight-up deal of Bynum for Anthony works financially, but there could be other players involved since Denver would look to shed more salary if possible.
Sources described the talks as in their infancy, and a three-way deal between the Knicks, Nuggets and Wolves is very much alive.
Bynum is averaging 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in 27 games this season as he works his way back from injury. In five full seasons with Los Angeles, Bynum has averaged only 56 games per season due to injuries.
Anthony is coming off a 50-point, 11-rebound outing Monday, but the Nuggets lost to the Rockets.

If that trade goes through, rest of the league should just tank. There would then be no question that David Stern will do anything he can to get LA to the Finals...screw the rest of the Western conference. Might as well just dissolve the other teams and make Boston and LA the regular and post season games...

don't forget the Heat in the east.
Personally, I think the Nuggets are leaking that info so they can drive the price up for NY. I think it is a real long shot that they trade him in the western conference. Melo wants to be in NY because that is home and he always wanted to play for the Knicks. LA might be a suitable destination, but that means the Nuggets will have to face him alot and they have said they don't want to do that. They are using LA for leverage. That deal they were showing in ESPN this morning with NY and Minny was terrible for the Nuggets. It was much worse than the NJ deal. They need another bidder to drive up the price. That bidder is LA.

Not a bit shocked by this. Sometimes I wonder if the Lakers and Celtics have some sort of "creative control" clause that allows them to be in the Finals all the time.
