sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=6098059&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlinesThe team captain is ready to break ranks.
Michael Young told the Texas Rangers last week that he does not want to be a full-time designated hitter and wants to be traded, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The six-time All-Star has spent his entire 11-year career with the Rangers. He has made other moves to accommodate the team, moving from second base to shortstop for Alfonso Soriano in 2004 and from short to third base for Elvis Andrus in 2009.
With the signing of Adrian Beltre to play third, Young was told that he would be primarily a DH and also fill in at all infield positions. The Rangers then traded for Mike Napoli, meaning Young might lose time at first base and DH.
Young said in the beginning of January that he wanted to be in Texas, but he appears to have changed his mind.
That doesn't mean that the Rangers will give him away. The team does not want to trade Young unless the deal improves the club, sources told Olney. Texas has had talks with the Rockies about Young, but both sides need concessions to make a trade work.
Young hit .284 with 21 homers and 91 RBIs in 157 games for a Rangers team that reached the World Series. He committed 19 errors at third last season, the same number as Beltre.
Young's desire to be traded was first reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Meh...he didn't seem that great last year...

i'm ok with him getting traded, BUT we'd better get something at least halfway decent in return

deal him for a B-rated class A player. The $16M in savings is FAR more important at this point. Young was a sieve defensively last year and was average on offense. He won't be missed on the field...maybe in the clubhouse, but not in the field.

I hate to see him go. He's been a good player for awhile and it won't be the same without him. Of course I still miss Pudge.

Here is a prediction from the great Jamey Newberg:
Prediction: Michael Young will be traded to the Chicago Cubs, with Darren O’Day, Chris Davis, and cash, for outfielder Marlon Byrd, catcher Welington Castillo, and righthander Su-Min Jung. In December. Unless he takes a liking to his 2011 role here, and 10-5’s his way out of any potential trades.

He is becoming Greg Ellis. I miss Pudge too but I'll get past Young. The more he sulks, the less I'll care.

Actually got into it with someone on Facebook about this. I explained to this fan(who btw, looked like a total Chris Chris from what I could see of his picture) how it was a well known fact BEFORE Young said "Sure, I'll do whatever you guys want me to do so we can get Esteban Beltre" that the Rangers had talked to Colorado. Facebook Chris Chris(as I'll call him throughout this posting) couldn't get that through his thick skull and kept telling me that the Rangers were screwing around with Young. When he decided to write this long ass manifesto about how the Rangers were screwing Young, how he(Facebook Chris Chris) was right and I was wrong, I decided to hit "Block this person." I didn't even bother reading the rest of his response it was so long.
So in short... EFF MICHAEL YOUNG!

He is a soft .300 hitter and a defensive liability. He has ALL his power at home (I believe it was 5 HRs on the road last year). We needed to upgrade. People can be sentimental all they want. John Daniels' job is to upgrade the talent on this team and that is what he is doing.
Geez...I really wish we could field a team of every nice guy that has ever passed through Arlington. We'd probably win 4 games.
