cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/01/michael-irvin-on-garrett-if-th.htmlCount Michael Irvin among the people who believe Jason Garrett will transform the Dallas Cowboys into the perennial winner they used to be. "I said to the football gods, 'You got this one right,'" Irvin said Tuesday. Irvin's faith that Garrett can change the Cowboys' trajectory is derived from his experience playing with the former quarterback. Irvin, the former standout wide receiver, had earned a reputation for his incredible work ethic -- one that was matched, he said, by only one other teammate. That player? Garrett, of course. "Every time I stepped on the field to run routes -- extra routes, workouts, offseason -- there was one man out there with me," Irvin said. "And that was Jason Garrett. They used to say I was the hardest-working guy on the team. But Jason Garrett was right there with me." Irvin would persuade Garrett to train with him outside practice. "I said, 'I need 75 routes,'" Irvin recalled. "And he would stay there and get it in. He never missed a day." Although Garrett never became the great player that Irvin was, the Hall of Fame inductee said his former teammate is finally getting his just deserts after being named the franchise's eighth coach last Thursday. "He never got the payoff on the field for all the hard work he put in," Irvin said. "But the football gods say that hard work pays off. And he got this job. If they follow him, they will win Super Bowls. This kid worked his [butt] off. If he conveys that message, like he has so far, the Cowboys' star will have a shine on it again."

Good stuff from Irvin...at least Garrett has the work ethic to do the job, just needs to find a way to transfer that to the team.

Well, at least we know he will have them hitting and hold them accountable. We might not be talented enough sometimes, but we WILL be tough enough. That is the one thing that bothered me almost as much as the losing. I hated that we were not a tough team.
