I don't mind playing good teams...it makes you better. I don't want to play New England every week, but having them on our schedule once next year is a good thing, not a bad thing.
The best Cowboys teams have had to go through tough seasons...seasons when if we didn't win the Superbowl then NY or Wash might have and we play those teams twice a year. You need to be tested like that to be great.

yeah, having bad teams on the schedule sometimes backfires, because you can have trouble getting up for those games

This thread should probably be part of the "Jerry's Offseason Moves" thread...

disagree...this is draft talk. Draft prospects, etc.
Offseason includes free agents, cutting guys, coaches, etc.
The draft will be a big topic all by itself starting in about a month.

Knowing it was just 3 spots lost, I'm good with the win. I'm with Bob here, if it was 10-15 slots, I'd take a blowtorch to Garrett myself.
But let's face it, Jerry loves him some draft day deals. There is no way in HELL that the Cowboys pick at 9. He'll parlay that pick into 2-3 lower picks, probably with New England (he loves dealing with them) or Philly (won't be too low in the first round).

Last time we were that high (Ware) we stayed put. Much will depend on who is falling to us and what the scouts tell him about other draft slots.
The Ware draft is a perfect example. The scouts swore to Jerry that he could take Ware at 11 and Spears at 20. Parcells wanted Spears at 11. Jerry trusted the scouts and made the picks.
If we are talking about trading back and the scouts tell him guy "A" (let's say Gabe Carimi or Derrick Sherrod) is going to be there at 15, they might move back...but if the value is to stay, he'll stay.
So much will change between now and then it is almost pointless. Initial draft rankings right now will change with the senior bowl and then the combine, and then with interviews.

Man, I really like the footage I've seen on Sherrod. He was pretty dominant in Miss State's bowl win.

If we stay at 9th we would get someone like J.J. Watt, DE/DT, Wisconsin possibly Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska if he slides down. So for sure trade down, early part of the round should have some interest in a QB or skill position from other teams. We need to get down to around 18th; Nate Solder, OT, Colorado Tyron Smith, OT, USC Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State Gabe Carimi, OT/G, Wisconsin Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
I wanna get a safety of the future either strong or free, and get a nose gaurd Ratliff needs to be playing tackle. Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA Kenny Tate, S, Maryland Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson

My draft (if we're working with what we know today).
trade back a few spots (13-16) and draft Tyron Smith, Gabe Carimi, or Derrick Sherrod. At least one of them will be there (maybe all 3, and that is the order I'd take them although Sherrod might jump past Carimi).
In the early 2nd, take CB Brandon Harris from Miami or Aaron Williams from UT.

sportsblogs.star-telegram.com/cowboys/2011/01/the-lovable-outland-trophy-winner.htmlJerry Jones has said the Cowboys will look strongly at offensive linemen in the April draft and there are four tackles in Mobile who are projected as first or second round picks -- Colorado’s Nate Solder (6-9, 315), Boston College’s Anthony Castonzo (6-7, 308), Wisconsin’s Gabe Carimi (6-7, 327) and Derek Sherrod (6-6, 305).
If personality equates to performance on the field, Carimi would be an excellent choice -- especially if the Cowboys could get him in the second round. Although Carimi won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top lineman, scouts are not sure he can play left tackle in the NFL. Right now, he is projected as a late first or second round pick.
But there is little doubt that he has an outlook that is good for a linemen. When asked how he was performing this week, Carimi said: “I was throwing a lot of people down yesterday, threw a couple of people down today, but a little less than yesterday.”
On improving his draft position in the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis, where there are numerous speed, power and agility tests:
“This is my combine right here,” Carimi said. “For offensive linemen, it’s all about performing here. What we’re going to run in the 40, nobody really cares a hoot about that. It’s working against other great players that makes a difference.”
And on which teams might be interested him him:
“I don’t have to worry about that,” he said. “All I have to worry about is playing my game. It’s worthless to try and look at other people and see if they need me. I’m going to be the same person and someone is going to love me.”

man if Carimi slipped to us in the early 2nd, that would be HUGE.
He was playing some guard at the senior bowl and tearing it up.
Tyron Smith goes in that category too, even if the idiot that wrote that article doesn't know it.
