Sad to see HOF players pass. Did the players ever get their wishes to have him replaced? I wonder if any of them feel bad now...

Is it going to be Robert Smith former Vikings running back to be the new union head.

I hope that whoever gets that job can go in and get negotiations done with the league and do 3 main things.
first, avoid any kind of work stoppage
second, get some kind of flexible cap similar to the NBA that allows you to overpay and keep your own players and possibly fix the rules with signing bonuses that will allow more freedom of movement through trades (don't accelerate the cap hit if a player that got a big bonus is traded, put it on the new team's cap instead)
third, a real rookie wage scale that severely cuts back on how much draft picks are paid.

The third one you listed is true. It's out of control how much these kids get paid before even stepping on an NFL field. Sure they proved themselves in college, but that is nothing compared to the NFL. Bet the Bengals would like some of that money back that they gave to Akili Smith & Kijana Carter.

It makes it were you are stuck with Carpenter and Spears. A rookie cap would have had them off this roster a long time ago.

At least Palmer has shown something.

I think there should be something in the Union rules to give Rookies two years to mature on a team. Permitting a team to keep 7 spots open for rookies only. Let the roster expand to 56, turns the league over and invests in the leagues future.
7 of these guys would make the team for sure Lattimore, Keon RB Atchison, Drew TE Ottovegio, Jay P Bradford, Mark WR Bennett, Martellus TE Walden, Erik LB Jenkins, Mike CB Jefferson, Mike WR Amendola, Danny WR Hannah, Rodney TE Polk, Daniel WR Scandrick, Orlando CB Robertson, Darrell DE Dixon, Marcus DE Davis, Dowayne S Jones, Felix RB Choice, Tashard RB Smith, Marcus DE Crosslin, Julius FB

Tis a sad loss, I thought Upshaw did a decent job bargaining for his players against the owners...

Yeah he said if they went back to the table the cap wouldn't be around anymore. Told the owners there would be no more salary cap.

His last deal was his only one that remotely favored the players. His past deals were owner-friendly.
