I have the Western Digital 250GB little external like that. LOVE IT.
Just, be careful walking it around. Dropped that bad boy, and all of a sudden it needed warranty service.

This thing gave me a scare this morning. It started making clicking noises and the power light was flashing off and on. Then I started getting all kinds of errors referring to it's drive letter (F) before my PC froze up. After doing a hard reboot, my PC got stuck on the E-Machine splash screen and wouldn't get to Windows. After letting it sit off and trying a 2nd boot up during my lunch hour with the drive not connected, it seemed to be working ok. The external drive was being read and I didn't lose anything, which is VERY good considering I had already backed everything I had up to it. Let's hope that was just some glitch and not an indication of an impending crash...

Yep, I'm sure it had more to do with the laptop then the HD...too poor to buy a new one though...

They tend to lean towards Western Digital. I just listen, I fix LCD & plasma TV's so I am not too keen on computer products or repair.

For future purchases, feel free to ask me questions about any electronics. If I can't give a full response about something, I am sure to find someone here at work that has a thought or two about almost anything. I work at the service center for Best Buy, so I have people in appliances, camera/camcorder, computer, laptops, printers, audio/video, and me in TV's. Even Ipods.

Both WD and Maxtor are good. Just back it up now, and RMA it, before it fails totally.
I waited too long, had a catastrophic failure, but got a new one with no issues at all.
