Well, they started off hot, but the shooting cooled off and we are finding out more about some of the guys on this team. I like the young guys, and I'm really anxious to see how different they are with Dirk on the floor. Hopefully we only have about a week left until he makes his return. Being with a few games of .500 when he gets back means we should be more than fine. I had hoped (early in the year) to be several games over, but as long as Dirk is healthy the rest of the way, we're gonna be fine.
Having the surgery was the right thing, but I really wish that he had done it at the end of last year. I know he was hoping to avoid the knife, since he has never had surgery but this knee thing has been going on for a few years now...it wasn't going to get better with age and more wear/tear.
I'm hoping we have enough time with Dirk before the trade deadline to figure out "what we have" and look to see if there is something out there that might shore up some deficiencies. I'd love to find another PG or big bodied 2 that can defend a little while not being totally inept on offense. I keep reading that Evans might be out in Sacramento...lots of talent there if Rick could bring him around to doing things the right way.

The Mavs’ schedule reads like this: vs. Miami, at Memphis, at San Antonio, at Oklahoma City, vs. Denver, and vs. San Antonio.
It would be tough to hand-pick a gauntlet much tougher than that.

all of that is going to be without Dirk...probably without Fisher, and maybe without Brand or Wright...0-6 is a distinct possibility. It would be nice to find a way to win 2 of those.

Mavs might need to consider pulling a Spurs and tanking for the lottery.

Time to cut bait on Roddy B. yet? Is he officially a failed bit now after all these years, or is there still a chance he could finally develop?

I rarely watch a game start to finish, but when I do watch, I never see him on the court. He might just go Leon Smith...

Prob gonna cut bait on ALOT of these guys. Truth is, this is a BAD year for rebuilding. Free agency is going to suck and so is the draft. Gonna be a rough 2 years.

From an interview with Dirk yesterday:
"You never know. You never plan a championship, but at least you want to be able to compete. To play for the playoffs or just to make the eight spot, that's not the way we carry ourselves in Dallas."
After their 99-93 loss to the Clippers, the Mavericks are 13-23, seven games out of the eighth spot in the West standings and ahead of only the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Hornets. The Mavs fell to 10 games below .500 for the first time since March 30, 2000, the last season the franchise failed to make the playoffs.
As far as Nowitzki's future with the Mavs goes, the question isn't whether he'll force his way to another franchise. It is: How long will he continue to play if the Mavs aren't competitive?
Nowitzki said in October that he'd like to play at least through the 2015-16 season, two years after his current contract expires.
I wish someone would tell that to Jerry.

Mavs need to pull a Herschel trade if they want to get any better. Spurs would GLADLY take Dirk off their hands...

Except you don't have anything we want...everyone that is good is old like Dirk. We need youth. IF Dirk was to be traded and i DO NOT want him to get traded, it would take something like Kevin Love and draft picks to make me interested. Young, proven star plus picks.

n3o
Maybe for Kawahii 5-0, Kevin Love (you have to find out how to get him from Minny) and 3 un-protected 1st rounders (every other year starting AFTER the next draft.

Maybe Kawhii and a salary dump of Bonner for Dirk and a first rounder...Leonard is barely 21 and already greatness. Dirk is great but old and broken down, I wouldn't do the deal straight up.
