Totally serious - no schtick...
At what point in his career will it become legitimate to question his ongoing inconsistency? I realize it takes some pitchers longer than others to finally fulfill (and, more importantly, maintain) their potential - Roy Halliday is one prime example - but Holland isn't some green recent call-up who simply hasn't logged enough big league innings yet. This is his FOURTH season in the majors - he started 21 games in 2009 (his rookie season), and has started 52 games since then.
So, he's logged a total of 73 major league starts and 455.1 innings thusfar. Do we need to wait until he's reached 100 starts? 600 innings? At what point does his continued inconsistent performance become a legitimate long-term concern? Again, I'm asking an honest question here, and not just kneejerking for the sake of kneejerking.
Isn't anyone else frustrated by knowing he's got the talent, but seems to be squandering it by failing to deliver on it?

There is a TON of evidence that shows that the year after a pitchers first big season they decline. Their arm isn't used to throwing 200+ innings and then bouncing right back. Cole Hamels did the same thing. This might be a very up and down year for Holland. The Rangers are trying to protect Ogando and Feliz from the same fate. However, those pitchers generally bounce back. It isn't an injury, just a strength thing.
All of this is why we signed Oswalt, and it is why we're lucky to have the depth we have. They talked about all of that stuff this morning with Norm. Relax...it is a LONG season. You're all over the place.

Or, to put it another way:
How long are we going to have to deal with your inconsistency with the Rangers? The front office knows what they are doing. What will it take? 3 trips to the World Series? Nine? Every single pro out there calling us THE model organization in MLB?

You're all over the place. dunham & miller had si's tom verducci on this morning, talking about an article he recently did focusing on young pitchers struggling in the year following their largest workload (innings-wise) - he had holland listed as his #1 "red flag" in this category, meaning holland was very likely this season to either succumb to injury or a significant decline in performance. it was very interesting, but what was encouraging about it is that verducci did say these "down" seasons are typically only a one-time thing and usually don't indicate the start of a career decline.

Every single pro out there calling us THE model organization in MLB? we all know how good this team could/should be - their cumulative performance over the past month is not up to the level they have demonstrated they can achieve. just because they've been to consecutive world series doesn't mean they get a free pass to half-ass it this year. they are too good to be playing this poorly over such an extended period of time. one week of poor play is normal, even for the best teams. maybe two weeks could even be understood. but a full month of .500 baseball by a team widely acknowledged by fans, media and actual baseball insiders as the best (or among the best) in all of MLB is flat-out unacceptable. as wash would say, "they need to get they head out they butt!"

Except that nobody is half assing anything. You think those guys are coasting? Everybody goes through slumps in a long MLB season. You're either with us or agin us. - Big Dave “Those who are not with me are against me, and I crush anyone who stands against me!" - The Shredder

According to a recent Newberg Report, the Rangers are a handful of games better at this point than 2010 & 2011. He also noted that scouts watching Oswalt said he looks as if he could jump into the rotation now. He looks good...can't wait for him to get up here. He's starting in Round Rock tonight.
