Lots of rumors about there about the Rangers...Yu Darvish, Fielder, Buehrle, Danks....what's it going to be?
Can you imagine Prince Fielder's left handed power in our ballpark???

Darvish is a total wild-card. Very rare for those Jap pitchers to work out.
Fielder would be great, but I hate to tie up so much cash in one player.
Danks, huh? Step one in the eventual reunion of DVD??? LOL

Darvish is 6'5, unlike the usual smaller pitchers from there. That is just one of many differences. He has also had success against our big leaguers in International play.
Fielder wouldn't make much more than Michael Young. You want to re-think that?

Yarvish is definitely more intriguing than the garden variety Japs we've seen on the mound in MLB.

Even if you decide to pay him, it is one season.

Even if you decide to pay him, it is one season. Would anyone be willing to take him on? Yes, it's an expiring contract, but it is still a MASSIVE amount for the last year. I'm guessing the Rangers would have to pick up some of the tab in order to get a team to agree to a deal.

Who knows. Don't worry about the money. Why is that your focus? We have a jewish guy running the front office. The books will be in order. I'm pretty sure the Rangers know what their budget looks like. If they go after Fielder they know what it means in terms of spending and possible moves at other positions.

From the Newberg report today:
Verducci characterized the Rangers and Angels as two teams to watch in terms of making a splash this week, “eyeing each other” like a mini-version of the Yankees and Red Sox. He called Texas “the stealth team” in the league right now. Gammons then went on a soliloquy about where the Rangers stand. He said, perhaps a bit hyperbolically, that every GM is asking him, “What do you think Texas is doing?” They have a ton of money, Gammons says. The best farm system in the American League. They are “always in the shadows.” The Rangers can go get Fielder, Gammons insists, or put together a package of Martin Perez, Mike Olt, and maybe one other piece to go get Garza . . . “or whoever they want. They have more ways to go than anyone else.” He adds that with the new CBA limitations on international spending, he could see Texas deciding to go ahead now and “spend a ton on the two Cuban outfielders,” Yoenis Cespedes (on whom the Rangers are apparently not heavily involved) and Jorge Soler. I’m paraphrasing a bit here, but Gammons ended by saying something along the lines of: “The Marlins are the team making all the noise right now, but Texas could be the American League team that’s the most interesting to watch between now and January 15.”

I guess I'm still in that whole mindset of enormo contracts (like Chan Ho and A-Rod) were what led to Hicks running this franchise into bankruptcy, when the reality is more just that Hicks' own financial failings were really what caused it. The big contracts still scare me, but like you said, they shouldn't now that we have responsible ownership in place.

Not only that, but the mega TV deal will more than cover our budget for players.

Here's Dave's, um, "take" on trading for Fielder: Blockbuster deal time NO. If we want Fielder better do it now. He has the baseball Anti-Christ Boris as his agent. The price is going up. I don't want anything more the $20MM yearly for 7 years. King Alberts deal is out pricing us in that market.
So looking at the teams WAR CJ and Young were the two most important players on our team followed by Beltre. So when talking about the 2012 team we keep talking about it minus Young and Wilson that's 11 game swing. CJ is probably going to LAA so that eats up our 10 game difference last season.
Spending money ain't going to get us to a world series unless it is done responsibly. Fielder would be irresponsible at this point.
I pointed out Fielders decline in production in warm months like July and August in stadiums like Florida and Atlanta just would be a BIG risk to sign someone with a history of lesser play in 90+ degree weather. We may have a few days pretty hot in Arlington I'd think. He grew up in Miami and could acclimate I HOPE but hoping ain't being responsible.
We need an ace a real ace not a paper ace like Garza or Hamel neither have done it an neither have stats to support them as becoming an ace. Hamel has a great WHIP .986 and his WAR was 5.4 little better the Wilson's 5.0 last season. Garza's stats aren't even as good as our 3rd starter 2.9 WAR in 2011. A trust ace is a WAR of 6.0 or greater. So staying with Wilson is just as smart as signing Hamel seeing Wilson doesn't cost prospect that could become a real ace.
Players that are interesting that would be an ace here King Felix, an it ends there for guys on the market. He could step in an be a Cy Young ace level guy. Other guys that are interesting Gio Gonzales and James Shields are good twos that could get better. They are in that same group with Hamel minus the huge base salary. They COULD become an ace but not a ace right now. By the way the word ace is used around here as just our top starter an ace is someone special someone that we haven't had in a year.
I wouldn't touch players like Buehrle over rated has declined each of last 3 years he is a 4th or 5th starter in 2 years. He wouldn't even be out top guy in 2012. Darvish great stats a freak. 500 innings a year not a smart risk for a guy that could be nothing more then a flash in the pan. To large of a risk to want him here.
The Rangers having plenty of money is true very true in 2015 when the new TV contract goes into effect it's $1.6 billion over 20 years $80 million yearly. But at this point the are still saddled with $20 million yearly for 3 more year. So they are already spending $40 million more without that huge boost in yearly TV contract. Sounds like what Tom Hicks came in an did got over his head and never recovered.so don't let people that don't know the first thing about operating within a budget spoil what the Rangers are building. Playing smart an being responsible will get us a world series. Making poor trades and backsliding will get us right back where we started average.

Sent from my iPhone More from Dave... BTW an updated WAR minus defense of Young puts him at 2.4. With that included Napoli jumps to a 5.5 and Kinsler is 5.4.
Oliver is going to be resigned one of the better bullpen guys last year. Pretty happy with him coming back.

yeah...he emailed me that stuff too. I don't engage him much in email because he is the same on email as he is on here....contrary just for the sake of being an a-hole. I can take anything he says, wait a week, and then say the same thing and he'll tell me I'm an idiot.

Seems you can retread other people opinions off of another cowboy forum. Pretty much the lowest form of a chicken shit too. Talking crap behind someone's back and name calling.
