The Cowboys' starting left guard is ... 1:51 PM Mon, Sep 01, 2008 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Cory Procter.
At least that's what it looked like during the portion of practice the media is allowed to watch. Procter, who started two games at center when Andre Gurode was injured last season, worked at left guard with the first unit.
Pat McQuistan played most of the preseason finale at left guard, with Procter sliding over from center in the fourth quarter. It stands to reason that the coaches thought Procter performed better.
More on this after we get Wade Phillips' thoughts on the search for Kyle Kosier's replacement this afternoon.

McQuistan is still having some ankle issues hasn't practiced much all preseason. He will be the starter come Sunday.

Not showing his hand. Cleveland could scheme against McQuistan.

McQuistan is the key to a super bowl. Remember last time I said Anderson was the key and I was right.

game planning vs McQ is the ridiculous line of the week. The will plan to attack that spot because it is the weak spot. There isn't enough film of him to game plan against him.

Proctor will start vs CLE, either he or Holland will start until Kosier returns. We'll see who eats their words.

I said McQuistan would be a beast what I have stated you will eat your words on that. You have agreed with my point about McQuistan up until now, you are flip flopping now. I think you start him at Guard get him so PT, then you mature him into a Right Tackle or replacement for Adams later then move Adams to Right Tackle.

I've always said I liked McQuistan's potential. I'm not flip flopping on that. I am saying he won't start at guard, which is what we were talking about. You said he would start Sunday. You said Wade is faking everyone out "not showing his hand" so they can't gameplan McQ. THOSE were the things we were discussing, not his long term potential at OT. Don't try and change the argument now. He may well take Columbo's spot at RT next year if Jerry doesn't want to pony up any more huge contracts on the OL. This discussion was about who would start at LG, and it won't be McQ. They are even saying right now that he isn't comfortable at G. He has a future at OT. I just don't believe he will be our LG at any point.

I think he is flat out better then Proctor, honestly haven't watched Holland enough to say if he should start or not. But I know he is better then Proctor. It does worry me we have to block Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, and Brett Keisel. I think McQuistan is strong enough to handle Hampton.

I'm not pumping up Proctor, just reporting what I've read. I don't really like 295lb guards, but if the coaching staff thinks he is better off starting at G this week, then I'm ok with that. I do like Holland. I remember us having issues with several guys on both the OL and DL from New Orleans when we would play them. I think he is a perfect fit for our system...so much so that he may not give the job back to Kosier this year.
